Being one of the main legislative powers along with the Council of the European Union, European Parliament was established in 1952 as the Common Assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) with only the purpose of supervising. In terms of both its name and authorities, it evolved through the time.
European Parliament constitutes of the parties of Group of European People’s Party, Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, European Conservatives and Reformists, Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, European United Left – Nordic Green Left, The Greens/European Free Alliance, Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy Group, Europe of Nations and Freedom, members of which are elected once in every five years and works on behalf of whole European citizens.
With its wide range of powers as supervisory power allowing it to observe the process of EU laws implementation, EU budgets funds and their appropriate use, budgetary power providing control over annual EU budget with the Council of the EU and legislative power authorizing the committee to adopt laws with the Council of the EU.
